National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012

This was enacted on 26 December 2012. Its purpose is to provide a legislative basis for the vetting of people looking for employment with children or vulnerable persons. This vetting is now mandatory. Any employer who fails to ensure vetting is carried out will face criminal penalties.

The Act applies to every relevant organisation, that is, any person, incorporated or unincorporated company and any employment agency which provides employment, whether under a contract of employment, contract for services or otherwise, involving children and vulnerable adults.
